Council of Analytical Tribal Studies (COATS) is a premier research-cum-academic institute in the field of tribal studies. The institute was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Late Biju Patnaik on 9th January, 1993. It is located at district headquarters town of Koraput in South Odisha. COATS is a registered body under Societies Registration Act of 1860 bearing No.712/82 of 1991-92. It is empanelled by Government of Odisha in the Planning and Coordination Department and affiliated to Berhampur University.

About the Journal

TRIBAL STUDIES, THE JOURNAL OF COATS is published twice a year, in June and December, by the Council of Analytical Tribal Studies (COATS), D.N.K. Road, Sabara Srikhetra, Koraput-764020, Odisha, (India).  It publishes research papers in the field of Social Science, Development Studies and Problems of Scheduled Tribes. Displacement and Rehabilitation, Gender Studies, Tribal Cultures, Tribal Religion, Studies of Tribal Women, Ethnomedicine, Ethnotourism, Environmental Studies, Tribal Demography, Growth and Nutrition, Studies of Tribal Genetics, Ethno-Archaeology, Ethnomusicology, etc.
